Feed is the biggest single expense in poultry production, accounting for up to 70% of total production cost per bird, and a long term partnership between UQ and Danisco Animal Nutrition has been working to reduce this cost while improving the nutritional value of our food.
For over twenty years, UQ’s Dr Arun Kumar (Research Fellow – Poultry and Nutrition in the School of Agriculture and Food Sciences) has worked with major global stock feed/additive companies to optimise animal nutrition.
He is one of a global network of researchers helping Danisco Animal Nutrition, a division of E. I. du Pont de Nemours and Company, to develop high quality food products faster, more cost effectively, and with a lower environmental impact.
An expert in poultry and pig nutrition, Arun specialises in the areas of digestive enzymes and feed additives in improving animal nutrition.
Enzymes are proteins added to stock feed to improve nutrient digestibility and absorption, and encourage weight gain, resulting in higher quality meat, eggs or milk with lower total production costs and reduced environmental impact (due to reduced excreta output).
