Technology Investment & Licensing

Working with Techcom

Techcomi operates with an innovative, decentralised Hub and Spoke model.

‘Spoke’ team members – called Managers of Innovation and Commercial Development (MICDi/MIC) – are embedded in faculties and institutes within UQ and our partner research institutions. They are supported by Commercialisation Managers, Associates and Analysts.

MICDs work alongside researchers to identify, protect and package innovations for commercialisation through licensing or the formation of start-up companies.

For potential investors and licensees, MICDs represent a knowledgeable first point of contact for engaging with the appropriate research and commercialisation teams. They manage the relationships between all stakeholders and play a major role in deal negotiation.

MICDs are also abreast of state and federal government research commercialisation initiatives, e.g. ARC Linkages, Commercialisation Australia, Queensland Smart Futures, Research Industry Partnerships, national and international research alliances, etc.

The UniQuest-based ‘Hub’ members provide additional commercialisation management or specialised expertise and services to MICDs, researchers and clients.
