University of Queensland researchers have developed the portable ThermoTouch device to assist with the prognosis and clinical outcomes of whiplash victims. The presence of cold hyperalgesia differentiates chronic whiplash from chronic non-trauma induced neck pain and subgroups within the whiplash condition. ThermoTouch is the first device specific to a clinical setting, which also allows health services and insurers to gain a better understanding of the severity of the injury sustained and recovery outcomes, potentially saving millions of dollars in treatment costs.
