TenasiTech is commercialising a unique nanotechnology for producing strong but flexible polymeric elastomers. This important class of commercial polymers finds applications in areas ranging from biomedical devices and stretch fabrics to sports footwear and golf balls. The technology is based on clay nanoparticles with a particular size, shape and surface treatment, dispersed in one of a broad class of elastomers that have a nano-scale structure,consisting of hard and soft domains, such as thermoplastic polyurethanes. Outstanding results have been achieved with nanoparticle addition rates as low as 3% producing an increase in tensile strength and/or test strength.
