The Ribbon Fan offers an operational and stylistic alternative to the more common four-bladed axial ceiling fan. Developed at the University of Technology, Sydney, the design exploits the principal that the portion closest to the perimetre is the most effective part of the blade. The looped helix design creates a vortex of air dispersal as opposed to a conical plume typical of conventional fans.
