PAC-501 Lucerne

Lucerne persistence under grazing pressure remains a considerable challenge in the subtropical regions. As a consequence, paddocks typically need to be re-sown every two to three years, adding to the production costs of the graziers.

Researchers at The University of Queensland have discovered that after a 2.5 year period, the persistence of PAC-501 was the highest of all compared group 5 varieties. It is expected that under grazing this persistence will carry on over time and keep on yielding. It is resistant to anthracnose, spotted alfalfa aphid, and blue-green aphid. It is also expected that it will demonstrate good drought tolerance and water use efficiency.
