Fluorodex

The administration of 5-FU, folinic acid and oxaliplatin (FOLFOX regimen) is the "standard of care" treatment for metastatic colorectal cancer. Adverse FOLFOX treatment events such as oxaliplatin-induced neuropathic pain as well as inflammation and catheter blockage due to the alkaline pH of 5-FU infusion prevent many patients from completing their chemotherapy. Researchers from the University of Wollongong have developed Fluorodex, a proprietary 5-FU based formulation without oxaliplatin that improves treatment efficacy whilst significantly reducing adverse treatment events.
